Welcome to Ving Tsun Kung Fu.
What is Ving Tsun Kung Fu?
Kung Fu is translated to any skill that is acquired over time. Ving Tsun Kung Fu, commonly known as Wing Chun, is a Southern Chinese style of marital art that emphasizes economy of motion, efficiency, and applies the centerline theory. It was developed in China approximately 300 years ago by the Shaolin nun, Ng Mui. She used her expertise in Shaolin Kung Fu to combine the best techniques available and this new highly efficient style of Kung Fu. Due to political turmoil, Ng Mui had to flee to the Southern province of Kwantung, where she met her first student, Yim Wing Chun (Ving Tsun). In her honor, Ng Mui named her system of Kung Fu Ving Tsun, which translates to “beautiful springtime”. Ving Tsun was kept a well guarded secret, being passed down to a few disciples at a time, from generation to generation. Eventually the system passed to Yip Man, who is considered the Grand Master of modern Ving Tsun. In 1949, Yip Man brought the style out of Fatshan, China to Hong Kong, and eventually through his disciples to the rest of the world. The system consists of learning forms, various exercises, application drills and the practice of Kung Fu Life.
